Petition richtet sich an: Senatsverwaltung für Mobilität, Verkehr, Klimaschutz und Umwelt
Berlin is facing a crucial decision: While cities around the world are investing in sustainable mobility, Berlin is in danger of being left behind. The planned savings in the bicycle infrastructure - in particular the halting of construction of rapid cycle routes and bicycle parking garages - are a serious wrong decision that endangers the transport transition and puts our city on the sidelines in the long term.
We therefore demand that the ongoing planning be continued and that the planned rapid cycle connections and bicycle parking garages be implemented as quickly as possible.

Why is this important?
1. Rapid cycle connections relieve pressure on public transport and reduce traffic jams: These connections are not luxury projects, but rather essential building blocks for reducing motorized traffic in Berlin and launching climate-friendly mobility for the entire city. Every person who leaves their car behind in everyday life or when commuting and switches to a bicycle relieves pressure on the streets and local public transport - this has long been proven. The decision to stop nine out of ten of these connections is therefore not only short-sighted, but economically nonsensical. In addition, the outskirts are once again left behind. Comfortable commuting by bike from the outskirts to the city center and back is being sabotaged again.
2. Bicycle parking garages are urgently needed: More than 28,000 bicycle thefts every year show the urgent need for secure parking options. Bicycle parking garages are essential to enable commuters to switch to cycling in combination with public transport and to relieve congestion on Berlin's streets. The deletion of 4,633 planned bicycle parking spaces is a step backwards and a fatal signal to everyone who relies on sustainable mobility, while the Berlin Senate administration is making every lost vehicle parking space a political issue when building safe cycle paths and is fighting for its preservation.
3. Berlin needs a sustainable transport infrastructure: Investments in cycling make ecological and economic sense. Every euro invested in cycling infrastructure pays off in the long term, while car traffic causes high follow-up costs. Refraining from expanding the bicycle infrastructure while simultaneously promoting car traffic is therefore not only a violation of the Mobility Act, but also a waste of tax money, including cyclists' tax money.
Berlin must not embarrass itself in European comparison by falling back into old patterns. A modern city relies on sustainable and safe transport solutions. We call on the Senate to implement the planned bicycle parking garages and rapid cycle connections in order to make Berlin more livable and sustainable.
