Miami Marlins coach Skip Schumacher, who led the team that remained in the bottom half of the world to the postseason, won the 2023 U.S. Major League Baseball MLB National League Manager of the Year award. In the American League, Baltimore Orioles coach Brandon Hyde was honored.
Begründung
The American Baseball Journalists Association BBWAA announced on the 15th that "Skip Schumacher, the first-year coach of the Miami Marlins, won the National League Manager Award." Coach Schumacher received eight first-place votes, eight second-place votes, and eight third-place votes out of 30 valid votes, winning the coach award with a total of 72 points. Milwaukee Brewers coach Craig Counsell followed with 51 points.
Schumacher, who was born in 1980 and took the helm of Miami at a young age, is also a familiar figure to Korean fans since he joined Ryu Hyun-jin at the LA Dodgers in 2013. Coach Schumacher began his leadership career as a first base coach for the San Diego Padres in 2018, and later became the head coach of Miami this year after serving as a bench coach for the St. Louis Cardinals.
Miami, which was classified as a weak player, has made strides under Schmarker, the "first-time head coach." He posted 84 wins and 78 losses and a winning rate of 0.519 this season, making the postseason stage for the first time in three years since 2020. It is the first time in 20 years that he has advanced to the postseason in a 162-game system except for the shortened season since 2003.
In particular, it was more meaningful for Miami because last season's Cy Young Award winner, ace Sandy Alcantara, did not show as much performance as expected, with an ERA in the four-point range.
It is the fourth time that Miami has won the Coach of the Year award after Jack McKeon 2003, George Girardi 2006 and Don Mattingly 2020. It is the seventh time in the National League and the ninth time overall that he won the Coach of the Year award in his first year as a coach.
In the American League, Baltimore coach Brandon Hyde won the Manager of the Year award with a landslide margin of 144 points with 27 out of 30 first-place votes and three second-place votes. He beat Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy, who received a total of 61 points.
Baltimore was one of the league's weakest teams until just two years ago. In the 2021 season, he ranked the lowest among the 30 MLB teams with 52 wins and 110 losses. However, Baltimore, which has strengthened its strength by attracting promising players for several years, ranked first in the American East this season with 101 wins and 61 losses and a winning rate of 0.623 and succeeded in advancing to the postseason. 토토사이트 추천
It was the first time in seven years that Baltimore took the fall baseball stage since 2016, and the first time since 1980 that it exceeded 100 wins of the season. Hyde is an unknown player-turned-leader who has never played in the major leagues, but he encouraged young players and created a strong teamwork.
Hyde was named the fourth Baltimore manager of the year, following Buck Showalter 2014, Davey Johnson 1997, and Frank Robinson 1989. This is the ninth time that a leader with no MLB experience has won the Coach of the Year award.
