Across Berlin, the disappearance of cultural spaces is a troubling issue that has garnered widespread attention.
At the end of 2024, we at WATT were informed that the lease for our space at Metzer Straße 9, which expires in September 2025, will not be extended.
This de facto eviction marks the end of ten years of work for a centrally located venue and neighborhood bar that has consistently hosted music, readings, and art.
We demand that the new owners, following their decision to end the lease without negotiation, open up to a discussion about the possibility of preserving WATT. WATT holds great significance for its diverse visitors of all ages and backgrounds.
There is strong public interest in this matter, and we insist it must not be swept aside without dialogue.

Watt muss bleiben!
I live closely and WATT is a part of my daily landscape and cultural life. Quite hard to imagine our Kiez without it!

I've frequented Watt since I moved to Berlin in 2018. It is a unique space in an otherwise widely already gentrified neighborhood and I think it would be a great shame if it had to close to make space for some generic business.
