Jede Stadt - und besonders eine 'Stadt der Wissenschaft' - kann & sollte stolz auf solch eine Institution sein, ja sie im 'Markenkern' sehen und unbedingt erhalten! Die Wissenschaftliche Stadtbibliothek gehört - da wo sie seit 1912 steht - zur Substanz der Stadt und Region.

Historische Forschung

Die Mainzer Stadtbibliothek ist eine wissenschaftliche Bibliothek von hohem Rang und bietet insbesondere für die historische Forschung eine ausgezeichnete Sammlung an Zeitschriften und Literatur. Durch ihre räumlichen Verbindung mit dem Mainzer Stadtarchiv sind optimale Bedingungen für die Forschung gegeben. Schon eine räumliche Trennung dieser beiden Einrichtungen wäre ein Verlust.

Stadtbibliothek erhalten!

Über Kriege, mehrfache Besatzung und äußerste Notzeiten hinweg wurde die Stadtbibliothek zusammengehalten. Welche Leute siund das, die heute auch nur in Rtwägung ziehen, diesen einmaligen Bestand an Büchern zu verteilen und damit zu zerstören? Sie müssen gestoppt werden.

In der heutigen Zeit in der im Minutentakt "Wissen" im Internet kopiert, plagiert und verschoben wird, sind Bücher und Bibliotheken der einzige Garant dafür, dass Wissen, seine Entstehung und Historie nachvollziehbar bleiben. Wer das angreift nimmt den Menschen Rückversicherung und Identität.

Mainz spart

Die Stadt Mainz hat kein Geld mehr - jetzt will sie sparen und verteilöt die Bestände der Stadtbibliothek auf andere Bibliotheken. Meines Wissens wird kein einziges Buch weggegeben oder vernichtet. Wo bitte soll die Stadt denn alternativ sparen? Beim Theater vielleicht? Ich wäre sofort dafür. Aber dann gibt es wieder einen Aufstand.
